Rogue Bar and Bistro

Some big, BIG things happened on the weekend. First: I baked brownies and miraculously didn’t eat the entire pan in one day. Second: We found our new FAVOURITE breakfast place in Brisbane.

Rogue Bar and Bistro at Newstead is plonked in the middle of a bunch of nondescript buildings (we drove right past it at first), but inside it’s lovely! Astro turf and comfy bench seating outside; fairy lights up above; and a huge indoor dining area too. There’s a small bar outside, so it would be a great spot for an after-work drink if you’re in the area.IMG_20140601_090157 (1)

We started with coffees, which were fantastic – my skim capp definitely knocked a couple other cafes off my Top 3 Coffees in Brisbane list (if you’re curious, the other top spots are still firmly held by Shucked and Dandelion & Driftwood). IMG_20140601_081905

For meals, I ordered the pancakes ($16) and D got the spiced mince pot ($19). The presentation of both meals was, in a word, beautiful:

My banana pancakes came with a thick smear of salted caramel, blueberries, strawberries, and a little shot of maple syrup. There’s usually ice cream served with it too, but I swapped that out for cream (excellent move). D’s savory mince dish was hearty and perfect for the cooler weather. Served with two poached eggs, a tasty avocado salsa, creme fraiche, and sourdough toast, it was something that we knew we wanted to re-create at home (but would likely fail miserably).

As for the taste? See for yourself:

Smashed it. Best breakfast I’ve had in a very long time. The service was super-friendly too, but I probably wouldn’t have cared at that point. I was high on salted caramel and carbs, and nothing could ruin my mood.
