Koko Black’s new Summer Menu
Koko Black, you devil. You first lured me in years ago, in Melbourne. Your hot chocolates are just so stupidly good.
And now? Now you had to introduce the limited-time summer Oasis range, with concoctions like the Salted Caramel Iced Chocolate ($8.50):
The iced chocolate is made to a traditional Belgian recipe, which is chilled then blended with milk. Salted caramel lines the glass, and Koko Black’s Madagascan Vanilla Bean Ice Cream is thrown in too, because why the heck not? The result is a lovely refreshing drink that is sweet but not sickly (although it is filling!)
I tried this new menu addition recently at Indooroopilly’s Koko Black cafe. I brought along the woman responsible for my sweet tooth: my mother. She ordered the Salted Caramel Delice ($10.50) from the regular menu – caramel chocolate mousse, caramelised white chocolate brulee with a chewy caramel centre:
She proclaimed it the best dessert she has had in a long time, and I agreed. The menu description does not to this dessert justice. It’s a layered little cake with a crunchy base and a chewy caramel middle, encased with the softest mousse shell. The little jug of salted caramel sauce that comes with it really should be offered as a stand alone menu item. And before you ask – yes, we poured the sauce directly onto our spoons to eat it by itself.
I’d recommend getting into one of Koko Black’s salons to try one of these desserts, but be warned: you’re about to start a very long love affair.
