What’s new?

Oh hai!!! I’m just checking in. Here are some wonderful, new, exciting things to tell you all:

1) Have you checked out www.eatdrinkgoldcoast.com lately? My brilliant guest poster, Simon, has written a fab review about a brekkie spot, Barefoot Barista.

2) I have added new location categories! So this means next time you urgently need salmon sushi, like NOW, you can quickly find out if you’re close to one. I haven’t finished them all yet, but I’m getting there. Thanks to reader Jared for giving me the kick in the pants I needed to get it going.

3) I’m coming to for a visit Brisbane soon! Yay! This really shouldn’t interest anyone, apart from Sing‘s, as I plan to eat them out of their supply of Pad Thai. Soz.

4) Did you know I blog in Canada? This is not news. This is shameless self-promotion.

Nom nom nom

Hey guys! I’m still here, kicking it in Canada. Posts on EDB have been slack (my bad), but I’ve been doing things like trying to get a job/make friends/establish some sort of life. NEW POSTS will be coming soon – remember, if you want to review for EDB, email me! eatdrinkbris@gmail.com

Also – I’m really sorry that so many pages of the site weren’t working recently. This was a technical error that has now been fixed! Whee!

For something different I thought I’d give you a peek at what I’ve been up to food-wise…

Flood Relief Friday @ Milk

The recent floods in Queensland really need no introduction. They were devastating, and it was heartbreaking to see friends and neighbours paw through the muddy, filth-covered objects that were once a part of their home.

Milk at Ashgrove is donating 100% of their dinner sales to the Premier’s Flood Relief fund on Friday, February 25.

A-dawg Abroad

Friends, I am leaving Brisbane and will be living in Canada for the next 1-2 years. What does this mean? Well, apart from my bank account being raped by Abercrombie & Fitch, and my insulin levels going haywire with too much maple syrup, EDB will have a few changes…
Will EatDrinkBrisbane still be running?

Yes! I will keep EDB running even though I won’t be living in Brisbane. It’s a fantastic resource for foodies, and provided reviews aren’t too old, it will always be useful.

Will you still post?

Sort of. I’ve got a few reviews scheduled to post throughout the first month I’m away. After that, I may pop in. I like to keep EDB about Brisbane, so it’s unlikely you’ll find a review for poutine, but you never know.

Who will write posts?

Here is where I extend my grubby, chocolate-stained paw to YOU. Do you want to write a review and have it posted on a site that gets several thousand hits a month? Yes? Well, send me something! I’ll publish reviews that are well-written, funny, and fair, as long as they’re about a Brisbane restaurant/cafe/bar/food product, and are accompanied by decent photographs (no McDonalds). There are a few perks along with this too – you might get sent to restaurant openings, or receive products to try. Yay! Email eatdrinkbris@gmail.com for more info, or to just blindly send something in.

I’m a PR person. Should I not contact you anymore?

Yes, still contact eatdrinkbris@gmail.com if you’ve got foodie news or would like to invite someone to review something! I’ll hopefully have a few mini Allys who are happy to write for the site while I’m away.

Are you starting a blog in Canada?

Yes! www.eatdrinktoronto.net It is early stages yet, but it’s up and I’m posting to it!

You’re a pretty good writer. Can I like, pay you to edit or write some stuff?

Certainly. Visit www.allytutkaluk.wordpress.com

Will you send us maple fudge in the mail?

Customs might not like that. I’m trying for Ryan Reynolds though.

xoxo

Confessions of a Food Blogger

1. I use the spray can Homebrand Canola Oil for most cooking.

2. I have never had truffles.

3. I love Starbucks.

4. I think my cupcakes taste better than any of the ones I’ve bought in Brisbane.

5. I steal salt and pepper packets from McDonalds.

6. I refuse to eat fast food, unless I’m drunk.

7. After I eat blue cheese I periodically smell my fingers.

8. Sometimes I bake just so I can eat the raw batter.

9. I’m often more concerned with nutrition in food than the taste, rarity, or skill.

10. Vending machines will always have a power over me.

Because I’m Awesome

I keep saying I’m a mad baker. Well, here is proof:

Have a great, sugary week.

Oh hai

EDB is back, after a little break that included a sojurn overseas. Regular posting will resume soon, but for now, a little taste of what I’ve been up to:

Guest Reviewers

What up y’all?

Do you like to eat? Can you write a coherent sentence? Do you vomit when you see people failing to spell ‘definite’ correctly? Do you know the difference between cannoli and cannelloni, but can still appreciate a greasy fast food burger?

I’m always keen for guest reviewers to post on the site. If you’ve got a restaurant/cafe/dodgy takeaway review, or if you’ve got something in mind, email me at eatdrinkbris@gmail.com. If you’ve got cookies, send them on in too.

Review Guidelines
-Reviews must be honest and reflect your true opinion
-Reviews must not be defamatory, or include information that you’re not sure is correct (and you haven’t specified you’re not sure)
-Reviews must be about one particular visit, not a summary of a number of visits.
-Reviews must include at least one relevant photograph.
-Reviews should follow a light, casual style. Weave some personal stuff in there! Have fun with it!
-Reviews should have a minimum of spelling and grammatical errors. I’m not perfect myself, but please do a triple-check before you send it in.
-Reviews should include the establishment’s name; phone number; address; and web address if applicable, at the bottom.
-Reviews should be fairly concise, but should cover food; service; ambiance; and anything else you deem relevant to your experience.
-Reviews must not include any comments that are remotely racist, homophobic, or derogatory against Canadians and/or Nutella.
